Dear PES Families,
Thank you so much for joining us for Family Conferences. Our hope this year was to connect with every single family, and we came very close. If you weren’t able to attend, it’s not too late, your child’s teacher would still love to connect. Please feel free to reach out for a quick phone conference, an email check-in, or even a time to stop by for a visit.
As a school, we are working toward our 80-30-30 goals:
- 80% regular attenders
- 30% meeting grade-level expectations on the state SBAC math assessment
- 30% meeting grade-level expectations on the SBAC English language arts assessment
Thanks to the consistent efforts of our students and families, we are crushing our attendance goal. We have been holding strong above 85% regular attendance all year. Because of our intentional work in classrooms and our deepening partnership with families through engagement events and conferences, we are hopeful to see measurable gains in both reading and math this spring.
Until then, please know how much we appreciate everything you do to help your child grow. From offering encouragement and love, to creating extra learning opportunities at home, every bit truly matters.
Thank you as well for the thoughtful feedback you provided on our recent surveys. We were glad to learn that most families feel supported and connected to staff at PES. Some of you shared questions about why we shifted to group conferences. I want to take a moment to share why: we have seen that students make greater progress when schools and families collaborate, build strong connections with one another, share transparent data, and learn together. We are already seeing positive outcomes from this model, and we appreciate your support as we continue strengthening these practices.
Finally, we’ve received a few questions about a winter program. This year, we are trying something new, a daytime program in late January. More details will be coming soon!
As we head into this season, it is with deep empathy and compassion, our character traits of the month, that I wish you and your family a joyful and restorative holiday season.
Warmly,
Shawna Schleif
